Ismid Surma is a natural, herbal eye treatment that helps prevent and relieve the symptoms associated with dry eye. It contains an active ingredient called taurine which has been shown to help protect the surface cells of your eyes from damage caused by dryness. Taurine also acts as a natural preservative to keep the ingredients fresh for longer.

Is this Ismid or Asmad or Ithmid surma!

Well, in English it is called Antimony. In Islamic Hadith, it is called as Asmad(اثمد).
In Urdu, Hindi, Bengali, and many other languages it’s called Surma. In Arabic, it is called as Kohl.

For our better understanding, we are calling it Ismid, it’s sound better to pronounce the Arabic اثمد

Benefits of surma in eyes

Ismid Surma is a powder that is used for the eyes. It is a natural and effective way to combat eye problems such as dryness, redness, itching, swelling, and soreness. The Ismid kohl powder is made from natural ingredients such as leadwort herb traditionally used in many cultures, including Indian Ayurveda medicine.

However, one of its most popular uses is in treating eye infections. It can be applied directly to the eyes or mixed with other herbs like turmeric as an ointment.

How to use surma powder in eyes

Make sure that the area around the eyes is clean and dry before applying Surma. Pat dry using a tissue or towel or wait some time.

You can apply it directly to the waterline of your eyes. That is the space between where the eyelashes and the eyeballs meet. You can also use it under as well over eyelashes.

Whatever method you choose, the procedure for applying the Ismid begins by lightly stirring the stick in the powder kohl and then moving the end on the shaft along the waterline of your eyes and above and under the eyelashes.

Prophet Muhammad(PBUH) used it and it’s a sunnah for muslims

Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) used to apply kohl to his right eye three times, and to his left eye twice. Source: Sunan al-Nasaa’i (5113) and Sunan Abi Dawood (3837)

In another hadith, the Messenger of Allaah (PBUH) said: “The best of kohl is ithmid (antimony), for it makes the vision clear and makes the hair grow.”

Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Kohl protects the health of the eyes and gives strength and clarity of vision, and cleanses the eye of bad substances. In addition to that, some types of kohl also serve as an adornment and if it is applied before going to bed this is even better. And ithmid is more efficacious than other types of kohl.
